Intermittent Self-Catheterisation (ISC)
Clinical education for safe Intermittent Self-Catheterisation
Service Description
Intermittent self-catheterisation education supports individuals who require catheterisation to safely and effectively empty their bladder. Education is tailored to individual needs, abilities, and clinical indications. Appointments include assessment, step-by-step instruction, demonstration, supervised practice where appropriate, troubleshooting of common concerns, and education around hygiene, equipment use, and complication prevention. Education is delivered in a respectful, supportive, and non-judgemental environment. Education also includes information on current catheter products and recent developments in catheter design and technology, helping individuals make informed choices in consultation with their prescribing clinician. Where indicated, referrals can be organised to the appropriate GP, specialist, or allied health professional to support ongoing care. This service aims to promote confidence, independence, and safe long-term bladder management. Please note: appointment fees cover clinical education and support only. Catheter products, consumables, and prescriptions are not included in the appointment fee and must be supplied separately.
